But there is 3,000,000 Red Orb item, and if it's not an incentive to buy Red Orbs with real money, I don't know what is. You don't have to be in the industry to know that any type of microtransactions is controversial these days. They were upset that their unfinished game didn't sell well and rebooted the series in such a way that pretty much mocked what everyone liked about the original series. They gave us gold that DMC3 was and followed it up with a piece of turd that original DMC4 was in comparison. We can only blame Capcom for the failure of the franchise. You do so knowing that you are, in a real way, hoping for the death of another Capcom franchise. If you choose DMC5 as your hill to die on in the fight against MTX, you do so knowing that Capcom will take the wrong message from the sales, as they have without exception during their nearly 40 years of operation. If you don't like MTX, complain loudly and often and eventually, Capcom WILL listen! But you can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want more DMC after 5, buy 5 regardless of MTX. It won't have MTX, or be F2P, or anything. If you don't like the MTX, complain! Loudly! Often! Don't let the Capcom PR teams sleep! But if you boycott the game with the expectation that DMC6 won't have MTX. I have seen this so many times with so many series owned by Capcom. Once the game is out, it doesn't matter how bad it is if it doesn't sell, it's because "consumers don't want X franchise." Capcom, without exception, is a company that will only accept fault BEFORE release. The thing is, a rational company would see the good sales of past games, and try to determine why the new one didn't sell. Breath of Fire had an unpopular game (and was dead for a decade) and then a bad game. And you know what? This kills most franchises it happens to. They always, without exception, attribute it to "lack of interest." Always. They do not and have not, ever, at any time, assumed fault when a game fails to sell. If DMC5 fails, there will NOT BE a 6! Capcom is remarkably consistent about this. If you plan to boycott this game because of MTX, which you have the right to do, you MUST also acknowledge that you are contributing to the failure of this game, and therefore the series. Y'all are doing it right.I've said this several times now, but since we have a megathread. The discussion about how microtransactions and other business models impact gameplay is one players should be aware of as the industry continues to evolve.Ī final note: while not everyone in the thread is on their best behavior, I want to give kudos to the large majority of players weighing in respectfully, even when they disagree. Really, the whole thread is worth a read, even if you're not planning to pick up DMC5 or not even a DMC fan. Regardless of DMC5 handling them well or not, as a matter of principle, I'm against this kind of practice." It's an economy that they control and can choose to inflate as they want, and that's what I take issue with. Red Orbs and currency in games can literally be added in as the publisher pleases, like a number you adjust in a digital engine. That isn't something that is worked on or even content like skins and cosmetics which deserve pay in exchange for service. "What they are selling are digital Red Orbs. User endneo (opens in new tab) is fine with microtransactions, provided they add value.
